What's happend with my DSL?

I just bought the Earthlink DSL it's great and all, but not as fast as the Comcast cable. One thing I don't get is why don't I get the stop and go video that I had with Comcast when I look at C/Net videos? I looked at 6 of them and the video was smooth and did not do the stop and go thing like with Comcast. I think I was getting like 6~8 mbps with Comcast and under 1.5 mbps now with Earthlink.
What is happening?, I thought speed was a good thing?, Is DSL better than cable?
